Almost free

The girls have been digging so many holes in our lawn.

None of the other four doxies dug like this.  In fact the twins even ate 1 -2 inches off the legs of this plastic screen. It was meant to stand up around the hole but they just pushed it away.

This hole went right down to the tree root. The girls seem to egg each other on.

So I found a free sandbox on FB Marketplace. First come first serve. Obviously Colin arrived first. So he went to the local lumber yard  to pick ups some sand. $19.00!! Oh well, almost free.

He had to shovel from the car into a wheelbarrow, a few loads.

Then move the sand from the tarp to the sandbox. A labour of love.

The girls were a bit unsure at the beginning so Colin planted a ball and a bone and a few other items.

Sometimes Carlie would not let Caeli in. A bit of a standoff.

About a week later it was a free for all.

The sandbox also became another wrestling zone.

Aren’t they cute.

We are almost at the end of this pandemic. We just need to hang in for another month or two.  Don’t give-up. Keep wearing your mask and remember to social distance  and be sure to get your vaccine jabs.

I thought it before I read that you wrote it. They were egging each other on. Hopefully the tub and sand does the trick and they stop digging in the yard!

I thought doxies were bred to dig just as they back up without training? Maybe you’ve just been lucky before? I hope the sandbox works as a replacement for the yard.

We have been lucky in the past because the last three had an older sister to train them. We got luck with the first one, Cloii.

What a great idea, I sure hope it works. We are looking forward to meeting the girls next week.

LOVED the knitting job… I don’t feel so bad making the husband build himself a room with a bathroom in his shop. I did tell him it was for his own safety… 😉

Good Idea for the little diggers! Good luck!

Just one word of caution about regular digging in the sand……it sometimes “backs them up” if you know what I mean. We have a standard poodle who loves the beach and loves to dig his ball into a hole in the sand and then “find” it. He’ll do it all day if we let him. We had some pretty decent vet bills one time because he ingested so much sand that it plugged him up. A little vegetable oil on their food perhaps? Also, his eyes were so packed with sand that it scratched his cornea – again another vet billl!

I really appreciate your advice. These dogs are bred to dig and we haven’t have a problem in 21 years but one never knows. They don’t eat the sand as far as we can tell. Looking forward to how they do in Mexico. They are always supervised and cut off if we think it is too much. Good idea re the veggie oil. Great to have that in my arsenal.

  7. Doxies definitely can be diggers. They are so cute. It’s hard to stay mad at them.

Well they will definitely love Mexico all the sand digging they could ever wish for!!, it’s going to be hours of entertainment!!
