Getting into the spirit

Thank you all for your great suggestions ( by blog comment and email ) re the pups on the beach. We will be working with many of them as the days go by.  It really was our fault for letting them run off leash with their leads attached so early. They need a few more weeks as least. They just went wild with being free. I think it could have been controlled but then some beach birds started to tease the girls and they followed those for a long while. Tough love is coming into play. Colin tried something different today, more on that in the days to come. I did not walk as I needed to wait for the fresh fish and shrimp delivery and get a few things off the veggie cart.

We asked Ismael to trim our palm tree last Saturday. He trimmed all you can see and more. As the branches die they fall off but several bits remain attached to the tree.  I imagine that over time they would fall off as well. We had Ismael trim down to the level of his left hand.

I like the look of a clean palm trunk and now our tree looks taller.

Now you can see why I wanted a clean trunk.

Now our outdoor lights are complete.

A quick snapshot but Colin will do some night shots eventually. We have not put up near as many white mini lights as usual but what we have is just perfect for us.

We plan to make Christmas cookies, just not sure when. They won’t be as cute as these though.

At least we don’t have to deal with this doxie problem.

  1. I meant to comment yesterday. The dogs perceive the beach as their gigantic free dog running area, so of course they are excited to be there. Over time I think they will calm down a bit as it will become routine and of course as they grow older they will ease off. Let them have fun.

Marlene, the only problem I see with that is that Mexico allows other dogs to run wild (sometimes in packs), and they protect their territory. If innocent pups get too far afield from their masters, it could be quite dangerous. A dog pack (without their masters) could be seen as fair game. Yes, some loving training is in order, but how?! You don’t want to break their spirit!

Dee T, very good observation inexperienced puppies could be vulnerable of been attacked by a pack of free adult dogs.

Too bad the pups are acting so crazy, no fear of anything:) Scary though when they won’t come back. My suggestion would be taking one at a time and working on recall and/or having one on the leash while one runs free. I’m sure you will have some tantrums but maybe they would work through it. At least on the beach their yelping won’t be too annoying. Have you looked at the website A Tale of two siblings: Littermate syndrome in dogs?
    Might be helpful.
    Anyway, enjoy!
