A few more photos of our yard, love to have these here as a record. One day when we can no longer travel, when I can’t walk anywhere and have become rather feeble and homebound, I plan to set up a hospital bed where our teal recliners are now. For certain I will have the most wonderful view of our lake and be able to observe all the changes as time moves on. No nursing home nor care home or whatever you call it for me. I then I plan to reread my blog from the beginning ( May 28, 2010 ) until I am current with it. So many photos, so many memories and most of all being able to reread all of your comments. Sometimes you might wonder why I have included a certain photo in a post – likely it is for me to remember far down the road, a long way down that road I hope.
Can’t remember if I ever told you but we purchased this hammock back in 2007 or so when we used to winter in Acapulco. Oh the places we have been.
I love the colour of these umbrellas. Sadly they are fading from the sun. Today at yet another park garage sale ( on a Sunday!! ) I found 3 medium/large plant pots in this exact shade of green for only one dollar each. Who knows what I will plant in them? The way the world is going I just might be using them for extra vegetables next summer. Perhaps a cauliflower in each. I wonder if they would grow in pots only 12/14″ tall.
We were grocery shopping yesterday and a smallish head of cauliflower was $4.99!
This tortoise is a pet of a neighbour up the road from us. She has had it for 12 years but I am not sure how old it is. It will live for over one hundred years she said. It has its own room inside their home, a fenced in outdoor area and it walks on a leash.
Someone on the lake has a new toy.
Its purpose is to catch the wind and then the owner gets on some sort of board and becomes airborne.
We have been watching this for several weeks now but they don’t get much past this point.
Snake hunting with the girls. Colin has a pair of tongs behind his back with which to pick the snake. It has managed to escape twice now and once he somehow pinched off the end of the tail.
Yes our neighbour is now breaking up the concrete that he poured a few months back. They can’t seem to get the vision of their yard right.
One of the lovely rainbows we have been seeing off and on over the past weeks. Hard to see the indigo but I do see the violet. If you squint you might see the seven colours of the rainbow.
Surprise photo. Colin must have used my camera.
I was picking herbs here for a salad.
Over and over and over they rush out the door to look for their snake. It does give them something to do.
Last year at this time we were eating out of our garden. Today I was able to pick just enough Swiss chard for a few bites each. I also need to replant my Swiss chard for the third time. Usually it grows like a weed. We do have one zucchini coming which is about two inches long. We remain hopeful that we will harvest many veggies.
Most interesting read. Saw this somewhere on line and did a copy/paste.
That is exactly why I include pictures or even stories that may have no relevance to a post. So we can reread them and remember certain aspects of our lives when we are old and decrepit (hopefully just old). Great find at the garage sale!
I figured that is why you put some ‘odd’ stories into your posts. We would never be able to get all of our posts put into a book. We have way too many photos in each one. Colin is working on a way of saving everything electronically.
Excellent plan for you. Sad for the tortoise. Agree, breeding doesn’t always go in a good direction. Especially in humans!
I agree, it’s so sad to see that poor tortoise house-bound & tight down, poor thing, it belongs in the open like all other tortoises. Who enjoys been deprived of his / her / its freedom ?? I would NOT !! :-((
Besides… is it legal to have wild life on a leash ? 🙁
Well the tortoise does have its own outdoor area. I think that she just likes to show it off. As to being illegal, I have no idea.
Ha ha, so true about humans.
I grow potatoes in my large pots. The 20 inch ones I put three potatoes in each. Smaller pots I put in one or two. They are doing great. Watch Hollis and Nancy on YouTube for their container potato growing videos.
I just might check that out next spring. However we don’t eat that many potatoes in a week.
Lots of beautiful pictures.
The weather has been affecting gardens everywhere.
Wasting that cement is a costly mistake.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.
They have made many costly mistakes. Their yard looks horrible.
Your peas look so good. Last summer Rex grew potatoes in a pot just to see if he could. I think he had about 11, two that were big enough to bake and the others we just boiled but oh they did taste so good. This summer he has more potatoes growing in a pot and trying to grow the yellow/gold potato. I hope we get enough to a few meals….time will tell. We are enjoying nice fresh tomatoes and some peppers.
We love those yellow fleshed potatoes. Still no tomatoes for us.
You certainly have a beautiful view from your terrace. (I’m a little envious) Would love to join you there on the patio with a glass of vino to take it all in!
And I admire your deck and patio and all the birdhouses. It would be lovely if we lived closer, the our doxies could play and we could enjoy wine over and over. We do love our view.
