Minimum wage???
What is the minimum wage where you live? I am curious what that wage is, whether you live in the US, Mexico, Europe or Canada. It will be different in each Province and State…..
Do you think that the minimum wage where you live is fair?
Here is a news article re the minimum wage in our province here in Canada.

The BC Federation of Labour has applauded Tuesday’s increase in the provincial minimum wage.
At the same time, federation president, Jim Sinclair, also expressed disappointment in the government’s decision to leave some workers out.
Tuesday, the minimum wage jumped to $10.25 an hour for all workers except liquor servers and hand harvesters.
The fed says piece rates remain the same while liquor server minimum wages increase to $9 an hour.
“It is absolutely unfair and arbitrary for this government to increase the minimum wage for some workers and not others,” says Sinclair, who called on the Minister of Labour to outline the government’s plans for future increases.
Sinclair noted a commitment by Premier, Christy Clark, to put in a process for future increases in place and to review the wage rate in the summer.
“Today’s increase to $10.25 is good news and long overdue. Unfortunately, even at $10.25, workers in BC don’t reach the poverty line,” adds Sinclair.
“We are looking for a commitment by government to increase the wage again six months from now.”
Sinclair and the Federation have proposed an increase in the minimum wage to $11.25 an hour in November followed by a system of yearly minimum wage increases based on recommendations made by an independent panel, similar to a system in place in PEI and Alberta.

With the hours you putting in getting you house ready, I bet you guys are not getting minimum wage.
I had to look it up. It’s $7.25 in our home state of New York, and $7.65 in Arizona, our current “home” state.
U.S. minimum wage is $7.25. States can have different minimum wages but it can’t be less than the federal minimum wage. Texas is the same.
What? You missed out on a grilled cheese sandwich?
Even at $10.25 our minimum wage is unacceptable. A family cannot live on this and would actually be better off on welfare!
Restaurants are starting to call their wait staff “liquor workers” because they serve wine and beer with meals. This is just a ploy to get out of having to pay even the paltry minimum wage.
Farm workers are exempt as well as the farm owners much prefer piece work. It is very hard to make a livable income in BC.
Today someone asked what I would charge to make a couple of doll dresses for her granddaughter. I told her I charge $15.00 an hour. She was insulted. Too bad-in a large city my skilled sewing would net at least twice that. People just don’t get what it takes to make a living these days. The US minimum wage just makes it so we starve to death more slowly.

Hard to figure out for Austria. The chart says €1000 a month, but every employee is entitled to 14 monthly payments. ? Not sure what that means. I do know that everyone gets their holidays as well. That’s all I can come up with.
When I was earning a little cash on the side, I would tell people that, depending on the job, the “cash” price was between $20-25 an hour. If they didn’t like that, they could pound sand.
Or try the yellow pages. Folks think they’ll get something for nothing if you’re working for some pocket money.
And if they were uncomfortable going to the bank machine for some of that stuff they print in Ottawa, then the price went up. I would then have overhead to think about, like income tax.
I could work overtime on a Saturday and be making $33/hr just to unlock a couple doors and turn on the lights, so I certainly wasn’t about to tie up my extra time donating my skills to some el cheapo.
And before you say, “Oh but you be paying taxes on ALL income!”.
I’d just like to mention the name Bev Oda.
Look her up. She, and many many of her associates is the main reason why I’ll pay as little tax as I possibly can.
I choose to not give the government any more money than I can spare, since the more they have, the more they’ll just waste on swanky hotels and unnecessary trips.
And unless they’re going to let me tell them how to spend my money, I’ll keep it for myself, thank-you.
In PA where we live and in DE where we spend our summers – both states – $7.25.
Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup – yum – comfort food for us, for sure!
10.00/hr here in NB just recently raised…..love the midnight comfort food 🙂
Great comments everyone, lots of food for thought.
