Bucket List!

Do you have a bucket list?

I went to a funeral yesterday.  Only my second ever funeral and it hit me hard.  It was more a celebration of life for a friend here at Holiday Park who died much too young at 66.  This was the fourth friend we have lost in a month!! Of course one begins to think of our own mortality.  I also wonder if I am truly living my life to the fullest each and every hour of every day.  What is important?  What isn’t?

Colin’s Mom, who lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is going to turn 98 this October and she is still going strong, taking the city bus to the mall, grocery shopping and cooking her own meals.  She says she is not ready to die, that she isn’t ready to kick the bucket yet.  We asked her if she had a bucket list?  She had never heard of the term before.  So now she is working on her bucket list.

There are all kinds of bucket lists, places to travel to, a special style of dance you want to learn, a new language to absorb, to run in a marathon, to go out to a new restaurant once a month, to read a book each week, to get out in nature and smell the lilacs of spring, to learn a new craft, to sing in a choir and on and on.  What do you want to do before you die?  Better start making a list……

I went to a funeral yesterday, too! This gal was 54 and a good friend. Sorry to say I’ve been to many, many funerals.

You’re right-we need to embrace life and fit in as much as we can, we don’t know how long we’ll be around. Looks like more trips to Mazatlan for us!

  2. I too have been to many funerals, and quite few people younger than me. Twelve years ago my younger brother at 38 yrs young to kidney cancer, made us really want to live our dream as soon as possible, and we began that journey 6 years ago.

I think that the life you live would constitute a bucket list for many people. I think you and Colin both have longevity in your veins.

No bucket list for me. Kind of like having a list of chores to do around the house. Too overwhelming. Sooner take it as it comes, with a view towards taking on NEW things as they come along, rather than trying to achieve some agenda or other. To each his own.

We don’t have a bucket list either – we just enjoy each day and whatever happens, happens!
